Methodology
One instrument, six tiers, measured against each other.
Melio Prism is a multi-tier organizational health diagnostic. Every level of the company answers the same instrument, the scoring engine reads both the scores and the gaps between levels, and the result is an archetype, a ranked gap analysis, and a 90-day plan.
The premise
Why multi-tier measurement
Most organizational assessments ask leadership what they think. That produces a confident, tidy, and incomplete picture, because a single vantage point cannot see its own blind spots. The truth of an organization lives in the distance between how each level experiences it: executives experience the strategy they wrote, and the frontline experiences the strategy that actually arrived.
Melio Prism administers one shared instrument across up to six tiers and treats the divergence between tiers as primary data. A dimension where every level agrees is settled, whatever the score. A dimension where the executive tier scores 4.5 and the field tier scores 2.0 is a finding, and it is usually the finding that matters most.
The structure
Six tiers, one instrument
Executive / Ownership
Owners and the C-suite who set strategy, allocate capital, and own the mandate.
Director / VP
Function heads translating strategy into plans, budgets, and accountability.
Manager / Team Lead
Where direction becomes targets, schedules, and day-to-day decisions.
Supervisor / Mid-Manager
The handoff layer where intent meets the realities of the floor.
Individual Contributor
The people doing the core work, closest to the craft and the customer.
Field / Frontline
Where strategy is felt by customers, and where the truth surfaces first.
The instrument totals 105 questions: a shared core answered by everyone, plus tier-specific modules that ask each level only about what it can actually see. A frontline respondent is never asked to evaluate capital allocation, and an executive is never asked to guess at handoff quality on the floor. Respondents self-select their tier from plain-language descriptions, and each receives a unique anonymous link.
The measurement
Ten dimensions, scored at every tier
Every response maps to one of ten health dimensions: Strategic Clarity, Execution Quality, Culture & People, Financial Health, Systems & Process, Communication, Innovation & Adaptability, Resilience, Market Position, and Sustainability. Each dimension is scored per tier and in aggregate, producing both a health level and a tier-gap profile. Tier weighting reflects who can actually see each dimension: frontline tiers carry more signal on execution and culture, executive tiers on financial health and macro resilience.
The resolution
Archetype, warning state, and context
The pattern of dimension scores and tier gaps resolves into one of sixteen archetypes, the organization's primary identity, plus the warning state it sits closest to. A disciplined Blueprint drifting toward bureaucratic Relic and an Operator approaching its Ceiling are different diagnoses with different plans, even when their raw scores look similar.
Interpretation is context-aware. Assessment owners provide organizational context, and the analysis adjusts for it, including business stage, ownership model, workforce mix, operating footprint, and regulatory intensity. The same signal can be integration noise in one company and strategic incoherence in another; the context is what tells them apart.
The output
What you receive
- Archetype profile: your primary archetype, its signature strengths, and the warning state you are closest to tipping into.
- Dimension scorecards: all ten dimensions, scored overall and per tier.
- Tier gap map: the divergences between levels, ranked so the few gaps worth acting on rise to the top.
- Root-cause analysis: why the top gaps exist, not just that they exist.
- A sequenced 90-day action plan, with each recommendation tied to a specific measured gap.
The best way to evaluate the methodology is to read its output: a full sample report built from a real anonymized assessment is public.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the Melio Prism assessment take?
About 15 minutes per respondent. The instrument is 105 questions in total: a shared core that every tier answers, plus tier-specific modules that ask each level only about what it can actually see. Most organizations run the collection window over one to two weeks.
Are responses anonymous?
Yes. Each respondent gets a unique, anonymous link tied only to their tier. Results are reported at the tier level, and the report never attributes an answer to an individual. Anonymity is what makes frontline data honest, so it is structural, not optional.
Why measure every tier instead of just surveying leadership?
Because leadership self-report flattens disagreement and hides blind spots. The most diagnostic information in an organization is the distance between how each level experiences it: where executive and frontline scores diverge is almost always where attention and money should go.
What does the report contain?
Your primary archetype and nearest warning state, dimension scorecards across all ten health dimensions, a tier gap map ranking the divergences that matter, root-cause analysis, and a sequenced 90-day action plan where each recommendation ties back to a specific measured gap. A full anonymized sample report is available on the site.
How many people does an organization need for a meaningful assessment?
The instrument supports up to six tiers, but it works with fewer: smaller companies simply map to the tiers they have. Tier-gap analysis becomes meaningful once there are at least two organizational levels with a few respondents each; at very small scale the assessment functions as a structured leadership conversation.
How does organizational context affect scoring?
Assessment owners provide context, including business stage, ownership model, workforce mix, and regulatory intensity, and the interpretation adjusts accordingly. A company mid-acquisition is not scored like a stable mature business, and turnaround-stage reports sequence stabilization ahead of improvement.
